Overwhelmed after my diagnosis this week — where do I even start?

Got the call from my GP yesterday after the biopsy. Feeling all over the place — I know the basics (no wheat, rye, barley) but it's the hidden gluten that scares me. Soy sauce? Malt in chips? Any words of wisdom for week one?

Week one advice: keep it boring and safe, and don't beat yourself up. Batch-cook a couple of meals so you're not making decisions while hungry and overwhelmed. And keep a list of the products you check and approve — future you will be grateful.

It gets so much easier, promise. Start with naturally gluten-free meals — meat, veg, rice, potatoes — while you learn the label rules. Watch out for soy sauce (most contain wheat — tamari is your friend) and anything with 'malt' in the ingredients. The first supermarket trip is the hardest one you'll ever do.
